Spanners places bets for the Canadian GP.

This weekend sees what I declare as my favourite race of the year. The track always seems to throw up a good race. It’s a challenging circuit that throws up a safety car or two and breeds drama. I am very fond of racing this track when I play the occasional F1 video game. It tortures you between corners whispering mockingly about how much time you left in the last chicane.

It seems like a gambling track and boy do I like a bet. I will place a series of micro bets each race weekend and will share them with you. I’m making my choices way in advance of the race before a single tire is fitted. We can review how well I did in the race review show.

The two sites I use are Paddy Power and BET365. These sites have friendly mobile user interfaces and I find them easy. Other sites are available and I’m not endorsed by or endorsing either site.

I try to look for the value bet but I don’t mind a flutter or letting my heart lead me on occasion.

Why Not Join me in a little contest? Rules I will stick to: Only deposit £6 per race and must make at least 2 bets per race weekend.

So if you start a weekend with balance of less than £6 you can top up to £6 but no more. If you have over £6 you cannot deposit more but can gamble your whole balance. Let's see what we have at the end of the season. Put your selection in the comments. Honor system rules. Virtual non cash participation welcome. No cash comes to me. use your bookie of choice

£2 Hamilton to win 6/5

I really don’t see Rosberg out performing Hamilton here and Red Bull will remain dutifully second best, therefore I am actually betting on Hamilton vs. Mechanical failure. This is a value bet.

£1 Kvyat to retire first 14/1

This type of bet is always a punt but never particularly good value. My instinct was to bet on Palmer but his odds are cruelly low value at 10/1. The top runners offer value up to 22/1 but I think the Russian is looking a little desperate.

£2 Both Force India cars finish in the points 5/6

This isn’t great value with the bookies seeing this as a coin toss. As I said on the last podcast I think the Force India cars are looking strong and will run well. If the race is low attrition and the Torro Rosso cars run well then this bet is in danger but I have a good feeling Perez will be strong.

£1 Palmer points finish 14/1

This is certainly a flutter but I just feel for Palmer now and want a reason to wish him success. It’s extremely telling that his team mate is 5/1 to score points and he is 14/1 and considered less likely than both Manor drivers to score. Ouch. I suspect this season may be one and done for Palmer but this week I will be willing him on for a points finish.

Have a great weekend guys. and why not listen to Missed Apex Podcast to pass the time. This week is a special tech show on the 2017 regulations with Matt Somerfield of Motorsport.com
